The Program

A Personalized, Brain-Based Approach

Racing For Heroes is expanding access to advanced health and wellness resources for veterans, first responders, active-duty military, and eligible family members who may be dealing with the long-term effects of operational stress, traumatic brain injury, concussions, depression, PTSD, sleep disruption, substance-use challenges, and related conditions.

Through EEG-guided personalized TMS and related wellness resources, the program is designed to help participants take the next step toward better brain health, physical wellness, emotional regulation, and long-term resilience.

Section 01

What Is EEG-Guided Personalized TMS?

EEG-guided personalized Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation — often referred to as personalized TMS or eTMS — is a non-invasive, drug-free brain stimulation approach that uses brainwave information to help guide treatment. The process typically begins with a quantitative EEG, or qEEG, which measures brainwave activity and helps identify areas of dysregulation. That information is then used to develop an individualized treatment plan.

During treatment, a trained technician positions a magnetic coil near the head to deliver individualized stimulation to targeted regions of the brain — a personalized use of TMS based on sophisticated diagnostics, with treatment parameters approved by a licensed neurosurgeon or physician.

This approach is intended to support healthier brain communication and may be considered for individuals experiencing symptoms connected to trauma exposure, brain injury, stress, sleep problems, depression, anxiety, and other neurological or mental-health-related concerns.

Section 03

What the Process May Include

01
Initial Consult
The first step is to request an initial consult or appointment. The Racing For Heroes team can help determine whether this program may be appropriate and discuss next steps.
02
Brainwave Recording
The process may include a qEEG — an eyes-closed quantitative EEG and EKG recording used to measure brainwave frequencies, heart rate, and brain-heart coherence.
03
Analysis & Review
Clinical and scientific teams review the data to better understand brain activity and develop a customized treatment plan. Treatment parameters are approved by a licensed neurosurgeon or physician.
04
Personalized Treatment
During treatment, a trained technician positions the magnetic coil and delivers the individualized protocol to the targeted region of the brain.
05
Progress Evaluation
Sequential qEEG and EKG recordings may be used to monitor progress and adjust treatment protocols when appropriate.
Section 04

Conditions That May Prevent Treatment

Before beginning treatment, participants must be screened for safety. Some medical conditions, implants, devices, or active clinical concerns may prevent participation or require additional review by a qualified medical professional.

Epilepsy or Seizures
Current or recent treatment for epilepsy or clinically significant seizures, including within the past six months.
Intracranial or Spinal Implants
Aneurysm clips and coils placed prior to 1990, magnetic-adjusted shunts, epidural cortical stimulators, deep brain stimulators, metal stents, and electrodes.
Metal Near the Head
Certain metal fragments, cochlear implants, and non-removable hearing aids that cannot be safely removed (the mouth is excluded from this category).
Implanted Medical / Electrical Devices
Pacemakers, defibrillators, vagal nerve stimulators, IVC filters, urogenital implants, or any implanted electrical device.
Active Alcohol or Drug Addiction
Active addiction may prevent participation under the listed eligibility criteria.
Threat of Harm to Self or Others
Individuals presenting a current threat of harm should seek immediate clinical or emergency support.
Psychotic Disorder Preventing Compliance
A psychotic disorder — such as schizophrenia — that would prevent compliance with the protocol.
Neurodegenerative Disease
Listed as a condition that may preclude treatment under the program.
Important Program Notice

This program is not a substitute for emergency care, crisis response, or medical advice from a qualified healthcare provider.

If someone is in immediate danger, experiencing a crisis, or may harm themselves or others, call 911 or contact the Veterans Crisis Line by dialing 988 and pressing 1.
